Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Catholic faith formation program for children, founded on two pillars: Sacred Scripture and Holy Liturgy. Through the use of Scripture and materials, called “work,” children are invited to enter into a deeper relationship with God.
The program uses a specially prepared environment called an "atrium" where trained catechists (adult facilitators) present materials related to scripture and liturgy, allowing children to work with and reflect on these themes. A “goal” of CGS training is to use as few spoken words as possible to permit the Holy Spirit space to rest within the children.
St. Catherine Labouré Parish has been blessed to have a large group of catechists invested in CGS Level 1 and Level 2 training. This blessing permits our parish to be one of the few South Hills parishes able to offer multiple sessions of multiple levels of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd!
We are in need of help in the form of craftspeople (woodwork, painting, drawing, sewing, calligraphy, thrift shopping, papercraft, etc). Additionally, as we grow this ministry, we are searching for atrium aides who can assist children with simple needs while allowing catechists to focus on the "work."
If you are interested in sharing your gifts and talents with our young people in this beautiful program, or would just like to see our atria in person, please click the button on this page to tell us about ways you may be interested in helping.
